Mr. Abdul Rauf is an Agronomist and possesses MSc. (Hons.) degree from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. He has 39 years of experience of planning, designing, surveying and data collection of baseline studies, agro-economic monitoring and evaluation of various irrigation and drainage projects such as OFWM Pilot Project, OFWM-I, (IFAD Assisted) II and III, ISRP-I, FESS, North Dadu, D-IV projects. He remained on deputation with Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) as Regional Director / Project Director for more than seven years and successfully developed, evaluated, demonstrated, disseminated and trained farmers/water users for the use of efficient irrigation technologies such as LASER land leveling, bed & furrow, sprinkler, drip and bubbler, zero tillage for irrigated agriculture. As Project Director he completed the assigned research and development projects viz; (i) Demarcation of groundwater quality zones in Indus plain and its marginal areas for sustainable development and management, (ii) Strengthening of regional office PCRWR, Lahore for undertaking research on irrigated agriculture (iii) Research studies for sustainable management of water resources in the upper Indus plain (iv) Water quality assessment survey for the project “Clean Drinking Water for all” (v) National water quality monitoring (vi) Rural water quality monitoring (vii) Arsenic monitoring and mitigation (viii) Safe drinking water for all (ix) Participatory irrigation management (x) Nominated and performed the duties as Regional Project manager Punjab of “UNDP assisted Mega Project Mass Awareness for Water Conservation and Development Project”.
He has also experience of planning, implementation, demonstration, dissemination and training of agronomic applied research studies mainly focusing on the development of technologies for the efficient use of land and water resources to enhance water use efficiency. His 12 papers have been published in national journals whereas 9 papers are published in international journals. He is author / co-author of 34 research, monitoring and dissemination publications.
He visited Nepal, Dubai, Iran, Jordan, Bangladesh and United States of America to deliver country papers / seminars covering the testing, validation, demonstration and dissemination of efficient agronomic practices to enhance the agricultural productivity. He is currently working as head of Agriculture/Capacity Building Section of SACAN Service. He provided consultancy services as task manager to plan, design capacity building of farmers/water users in climate smart agriculture resource conservation practices/technologies and developed farm machinery (LASER land leveling, bed planting, ridge sowing, crop residue management through zero tillage, ZT pak/happy seeder, fertilizer band placement drill, high efficiency irrigation systems), high efficiency irrigation system, on-farm storage, use of bio-fertilizer biozote and rapid soil analysis kit to enhance land & water profitability and productivity under assigned USAID/USDA/ICARDA, IWMI-Pakistan, FAO, IUCN, ICI and SIDA/WSIP projects.
